Under-mount sinks are designed to fit underneath contemporary solid surface worktops made of granite, marble, quartz, composites or solid wood. They ought to be fixed to countertops above them by either sufficiently strong adhesive or/and special undermount clips. Their advantages are twofold - aesthetic and practical. There is no visible sink lip or sink rim above the worktop, which gives kitchens much sleeker and tidier appearance, but above all it makes the work surface much easier to clean as the food bits no longer accumulate around the sink edges (as is too often the case with conventional inset sinks).
